👉 Top 5 Mistakes 1st Timers to Disney Should Avoid👈

How exciting! The calendar countdown to your first Disney vacation is steadily dwindling and the family’s anticipation level is rising. After all, Disney has a multitude of fans and according to social media, people you know are among those thrilled fans.  As theme parks go, few come close to matching Disney’s ‘for all-ages’ fun and excitement, therefore making it an ideal place to spend vacation time. With that said, there are a few things to avoid so your vacation is the ideal mix of fun and relaxation you expect.

The ‘get it all in’ family

This family has dutifully researched and planned their vacation down to the last detail. They’ve never stepped inside the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT but by golly, they’ve got a plan and they’re going to see and do everything! Unless you’re staying in Orlando several months, seeing and experiencing everything at Walt Disney World is impossible. It’s simply too big and offers too much.  While you should plan your days and know where to start in each park, don’t make the mistake of thinking you can see and do everything in each park in one day. Plan your starting point and take it from there.

Not scheduling quiet time

Disney parks are fun and can keep you busy all day long but three or four days in a row leave you needing a vacation from your vacation. Schedule quiet time and take the time to relax at your hotel. Sit poolside one morning while most people rush to the parks. Put the ‘do not disturb’ sign on the door and pull the blackout curtains and sleep in one morning or skip the parks altogether for one day.

Wearing the wrong shoes

Speaking of feet, I’ve seen all manner of footwear in the parks. You can walk miles in a day just visiting one park. Keep those shoes comfortable. High heels may look adorable with your summer capris but the blisters on your toes will keep you from having fun or slow you down a great deal.

Taking too Much Stuff

Before you can get into any Disney theme park, there is a little right of passage called a bag check. For guests carrying bags of any sort; camera, diaper, purse, tote, etc. you have to go into a special line and have that bag checked by security. Avoid this line if possible by not carrying bags. Large cargo pockets on shorts help. But if you still need a bag of some sort, keep it lightweight and simple. You don’t need to pack the kitchen sink for a park day.

Skipping Snacks and Fluids

Imagine vacation day two of full park time and you’re doing OK but feeling just a bit off. Slight ache behind the eye or mild irritability comes to mind. It could be low hydration or too long between meals. You’re not sick yet. Not overheated and needing medical attention; just off a bit. After all, you’re combining walking more than usual with Florida’s hot humid weather. Stop and look around for a smoothie stand. A tropical smoothie or a piece of fruit and water will go a long way toward making your day more comfortable.  Sit at a table and enjoy it while crowd watching. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel after a 15 minute break and a smoothie.

Overall the best advice I can give a first time visitor is enjoy it with leisure in mind. After all, it’s a vacation!
